Before printing on fabric was developed, the ancient Japanese used shibori, a resist technique to preserve white designs on the fabric when it was dipped into the indigo. In this class we’ll learn some basic shibori techniques and apply them to white dinner napkins which will then be dyed in indigo. Students are welcome to bring white, well washed, natural fabric clothing items or table linens to dip into the indigo if time remains.
